A group of people no longer feel their country offers them safety, nor that it values them. They begin a search for a new land where they can build their ideas and dreams into reality. Our new production of the play "I Want a Country", explores the universal human desire for a place of belonging through the unique voices of a theatrical chorus. Written by Andreas Flourakis, one of Greece’s most acclaimed contemporary playwrights, the play delves into the individual and collective stories of immigrants. Each character presents their reasons for seeking or creating a new country, driven by war, poverty, persecution, and the quest for a better life. The narrative asks profound questions: What is this new country? What should it be like? Is it the same for everyone? Is it perhaps no more than a utopian dream?
