Connections Awarded 2022 Grant by Queens Council on the Arts

Connections is a show about ritual and healing from the trauma experienced during the last two years of the pandemic.

Dorothea Gloria is thrilled to announce that she has been awarded the New Works Grant from the Queens Council of the Arts (a statewide theatre program) for their upcoming season. The grant will support general operating expenses, bolster administrative and artist pay, and guarantee continues safety in rehearsal spaces. For more information about Connections, please visit the La Guardia Performing Arts website: https://www.lpac.nyc/upcoming-events/connections. Queens Council on the Arts offers project-based grants to Queens individual artists, artist collectives, and small non-profit organizations to support local production of art work and cultural programs that highlight, engage, and bolster the diverse communities of the Queens borough.

Recipients of this grant were determined by a panel of theatre-makers from New York City. Nominations for panelists were solicited from the community and met virtually to score and allocate funding for the hundreds of applicants.

Producer and creator, Dorothea Gloria stated “I am so happy that I get to bring this work to life alongside my trusty collaborator and friend, Handan Ozbilgin. This grant will really elevate our artistry and bring the message we want to a wider audience.”

Connections is a show that will engage audience members in the Queens borough to reflect on their memories and experiences and hopefully allow a chance for healing and moving forward. Led by two powerful creators, Connections will take a closer look on social, cultural, and historical stories that invite audience members to investigate their relationship with themselves and other people.
